Hello - Need some inspiration and motivation to be SEEN and do that thing you fear?

Hello, dear ,

We were in beautiful Cape Town last week, for Andrew's parents' 60th Wedding Anniversary, and also his Dad's 85th birthday. So many wonderful celebrations in one week! It's not often that someone reaches either of those milestones, never mind both....

Which made me think of how we choose to spend the years we are given on our beautiful Mother Earth.

If you're anything like me, you have goals, hopes, wishes and dreams. You may have a little voice that says "Come on - you KNOW you want to do that thing you've been thinking of - just do it!" and of course, this voice can instantly be drowned out by all the fear voices...
  • What if I look stupid?
  • What if it's a failure?
  • What if I make a fool of myself?
  • What if I get it wrong?
  • What if I get criticized or judged?
  • What if I don't get approval?
  • What if I freeze at the crucial moment?
  • I'm scared to be in the spotlight
  • I don't know where to start
On and on it goes, squashing our amazing potential and telling us to stay in our little box of contraction. We put our dream away at the back of the cupboard and with that, the difference we could have made for someone else. Not only do WE lose, but also the rest of the world.

Sad, don't you think?

I was wondering what I'm going to write today and when I saw this short, inspirational video clip a few minutes ago, I instantly knew. THIS is what we all need to hear.

It's from a wonderful actor I admire, Jim Carrey - a few minutes of his Commencement speech in 2014 to a hall of students on the brink of their adult lives. This could change your life. If you're anything like me, it'll make you cry. Sob even.

And you'll feel inspired to start that project or dream you've been putting off. Or just simply to stop hiding your gifts and uniqueness and LIVE, instead of hiding because you might make a mistake.

I've watched this 3 times in the past 15 minutes and the tears were running down my cheeks by the 2nd time. His closing words:

Choose love, not fear.

I know that this is an especially hard topic for introverts. To be seen, to be visible, to get it perfect. You'll get a LOT out of this, where-ever you are on the introvert / extravert scale.

It's the most inspiring thing I've seen all year - and believe me, I see a lot.

With much warmth from a sunny, cold Joburg
