Hello - What happens when you think 'visibility' or 'bragging'?

Published: Thu, 08/25/16

Dear ,

I just love the process of life and how it teaches and informs us. It keeps surprising and delighting me.

In the beginning of the year, I started a practice that some of my mentors had been doing for years. And that is to pick a 'Word' for the year, as a focus area for growth.

My word is "Visibility".

If you're an introvert, you might know how scary that could feel. I felt trepidation, shakiness, "What did I let myself in for now?!" and some anxiety. (And yes, some excitement and hope, too.... )

Despite the shakiness, I knew that it really is my growing edge. If I don't look at this aspect, I'll stay in the same place with my business and life. It was the next big mountain for me, even though I HAD done a lot to be visible (like host a telesummit, a podcast, a blog).

The truth is though, that I'm still hesitant and reluctant to SHARE about the work I do. I don't share my blog, my podcast, my telesummit and other bits about my work freely on social media - because I don't want to sound salesy or like it's all about 'Me, me, me'.

Have you felt like that? That you KNEW you had a particular area that needs to grow yet it feels so darn scary you'd rather leave it? I get how you feel!

In the past few months I'd joined a few groups for Introverts and I could SO relate to most of their fears. And then 'magically', one of the group owners decided to host a 5 Day 'Visibility for Introverts' Challenge! Isn't that just a beautiful example of synchronicity and flow? I put my "word" out there - and now I'm finding opportunities where I can practice it!

The thing is also, I believe - I wouldn't have seen or found this opportunity if I was sitting on the couch dreaming about it. I did take action to put myself in places where I could be challenged a bit - like join groups, reach out to new people and so on.

We started the challenge this past Monday. Every day has a 'fun' new thing to practice - like writing an engaging intro, practicing taking selfies and posting one in that group (Eeeeeek!!! Most of us really balked at this one, but we did it anyway because it's part of the growth process!) and next, I believe, we're going to do a 'Facebook Live' video. Double eek...

We're definitely stretching the comfort zone, yet it's in a safe space where EVERYONE feels the same nerves about the daily task. And everyone is supportive - because we're slaying our imaginary dragons together.

Does any of the above sound intriguing AND a bit scary at the same time?

How would you like to be a part of a Facebook group for Introverts?
How would it be for you to participate in a group program where you can practice some of the things that scare the daylights out of you when you think about them now, especially things like 'visibility', more confidence, jumping into action and reaching some big goals?

I'm in the process of setting up both. I wanted to write to you anyway, before it's all ready, before my perfection-tendency tells me to get it all absolutely spic-and-span before I'm allowed to talk about it.

Just drop me a quick reply to say YES to either, if it sounds like something you want to explore.

I want to let you know of some unique personal development courses coming up in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.

I attended these in 2005 just around the time I met my husband, Andrew. In fact, it was Andrew that introduced me to them. And he told me about them (and very strongly advised me to go!) because it made such a big difference in his own life.

In the same way, I want to pass on this information to you. Because it made such an enormous positive difference in MY life! A couple of months after I attended this life-changing experience, Andrew and I got married and I believe that a huge part of the reason our marriage is so strong and works so well on every level (it's 11 years now) - is that we work from the foundation of these workshop experiences.

What's It About?

Do any of these statements sound familiar to you?
  • It’s hard to trust people, they always let me down
  • Life isn’t all that much fun most of the time
  • I often end up doing things I don’t want to do
  • I am very prone to stress both at home and at work
  • I find it hard to talk about what is going on with me
  • I’m so busy there isn’t much time for me
  • I often wonder what I should really be doing with my life
  • I get upset when people won’t see that I am right
The topics that you will look at:
  • Your life is the way that it is because that is how you make it
  • Finding Opportunities in the Mistake
  • Relationships - what they are and how to make them work better
  • The Value and Importance of Fear and Anger
  • Blame weakens you
  • Guilt has no value
  • Giving up is not an option and Surrender is everything
  • You are your own best healer
  • The absolute necessity of a Vision for your life - how to find this
  • How to support and serve those around you
  • How to teach people how you want to be treated
  • Emotions are Life
  • Children - what are they
The work is experiential and practical and lots of fun. It'll help you to get a handle on why you do what you do. Lots of good solid practical stuff and opportunities for huge insights into your own patterns and behaviour. You'll also make wonderful new friends for life.

Christopher (who hosts the workshops) also married us in September 2005 in a beautiful, unique ceremony. He's one of the people I'll thank to the day I leave Mother Earth, for the difference he's made for me.
