Hello, - Overlapping your Goals and your Strengths, and Handling Conflict

Published: Fri, 01/12/18

Dear ,

Many of us set regular goals and love it, while others are deeply reluctant or even resistant to that. Why do you think that is?

In my experience, there are a number of reasons. Okay if I share?

One of them is our unique strengths. I work with the Gallup StrengthsFinder and find it so delightfully fascinating how unique we are.

Some strengths have a royally good time with goals. They LOVE achieving and ticking boxes.... while for other strengths, it's almost pointless to have them - because they know things are going to change. And they live for the MOMENT, not for a future time. They respond better to pressure... so it's hard for them to stick to a pre-planned diary.

That's one clue. Our unique strengths have a large say in how much enjoyment we find in goals.

I believe we absolutely HAVE to honour those strengths and find ways to create a life (another way of saying "reach our goals") that feels joyful and inspiring, rather than following "You have to set goals!" blindly. If we go against the grain of our strengths, it guarantees an uphill journey filled with effort and little joy.

Sound interesting? I'm in the planning phase of a juicy new program to create alignment between Goals and Strengths and will let you know about it soon.

However! There are also many other reasons why goals and dreams can be a lot of effort and feel hard. Most of those reasons have to do with our limbic (emotional) brain!

Mini-Series on Goals:

I started a mini-series on FB about 5 big reasons I've found that can stop us from even going one step in the direction of our goal. If you're interested in this topic, here's a summary with links you can follow. It's all freeeeeee! I included simple tapping videos you can follow along with.

Overview of the 5 reasons

Block 1 - A sense of contraction

Block 2 - Fear of visibility

Block 3 - Resistance to consistent action

Block 4 and 5 - coming soon!

There's been really positive feedback so far - a respected introvert coach colleague said: "I tapped along with you, and this is the first time that this method of tapping has worked for me. I think because the words were slowed down enough to not drive me crazy, LOL. So thank you for helping me become more conscious of this contraction and for helping me get back to homeostasis in my brain."

Did any of these ring a bell for you? What other 'showstoppers' have you encountered for YOUR goals and dreams?

Handle Conflict with Ease Workshop Experience

It IS hard for some of us to handle conflict wisely. Most often in our childhood homes, we're not taught what to do with conflicting wants and needs and it's left to chance.... that's definitely not the best way.

Emotional triggers for both parties make it very tricky ground. It can blow out of proportion very quickly if each party tries to argue their point louder and louder. Who shouts loudest, might be the short-term winner, and the relationship is the loser.

If we have an understanding of the steps that need to happen to resolve conflict as smoothly as possible, we can feel calmer from the outset. PLUS if we're given a tool to handle those darn fast heartbeats in the throat, the shaking hands and voice, and trembly tummy, we might be able to do this!

That's what my awesome colleague, Alison Gitelson and I, will offer again on 23 January, 10 am SA (8 am UK) OR 6 pm SA (4 pm UK, 11 am ET).

This link takes you to all details of "Handle Conflict with Ease". Did I mention how affordable it is at only $25? We're hosting it online, so there's no traveling. If you're an introvert who doesn't like meeting crowds, this should be helpful!

After the previous workshop, we had this feedback:
"During the week, as a result of the workshop, I confronted something I’d been avoiding. Someone wanted to pursue a friendship and I didn’t and I found a way to say it that was straightforward and honest, without being hurtful.  In fact I got an email back thanking me for my sensitivity. It was one of the reasons I wanted to do the workshop, to deal with this thing, so that was great!"

Monthly Tapping Circle
It's been a while!! The move to the UK totally stopped me in my business tracks. I will host a monthly Tapping Circle again from February, every second Monday of the month. First one on Monday 12 February at 4 pm SA, 3 pm Europe, 2 pm UK, 11 am ET.  It's a GREAT, safe place to clear lingering issues, beliefs, bothering events and memories in a small group of tappers.

Book here for February and March.
