Hello, - Are you Fast or Slow to jump into Action?

Published: Wed, 01/24/18

Dear ,

I'm usually a slow action taker. That means - I have an idea and can spend hours, days or sometime weeks considering it, before I 'feel ready' to implement it.

I have a friend (hey Bennie!) who has an idea and almost immediately starts taking steps to implement it.

My way often doesn't feel great to me. I get frustrated with myself for taking so long. There's a nagging feeling of "I WANT to do it, but I'll do it later." Funny thing is - I love having goals (like earning a certain amount, or writing a certain number of articles, or creating and offering a program) and yet, I often postpone taking action on them. Whereas my friend loves goals too, and he almost immediately jumps into action.

Where are YOU on that scale? On the slower, more 'thinking about it' side, or on the faster 'I'm doing it RIGHT NOW' side? This can also be a little on the 'too fast' side - in other words, hasty or impulsive action that you might later regret.

How does it feel to you, wherever you are? Happy with it? Anything you'd like to change?

One of the factors that make up this difference between myself and Bennie is a strength called "Activator". His Activator lies high up in his list of 34 strengths - it's energizing for him to take action right away. My Activator (sigh) lies stone last on the entire list of 34 - so for me, it's hard work and even draining to take action FAST. This strength can fall anywhere between 'energizing' and 'draining' for all of us.

Here's the thing though - I LOVE reaching my goals and ticking those boxes. And I won't ever get to ticking them if I don't make a start, right? So we can't let the talents that are draining for us, stop us from doing what we need to do.

Often, though, it's not my low Activator that stops me... there are also emotional factors in the mix that can stop us from even taking one step. And that's why I started this mini-series on 5 things that came up for me recently, when I made a goal for this year.

Last time I shared 3 of the links for the mini-series on goals. All 5 are now ready for you.

Mini-Series on Goals:

It's all freeeeeee! I included simple tapping videos you can follow along with.

Overview of the 5 reasons

Block 1 - A sense of contraction (tapping video)

Block 2 - Fear of visibility (tapping video)

Block 3 - Resistance to consistent action

Block 4 - I'm not ready! (tapping video)

Block 5 - Identity - "Who am I to have/be that?"

There's been lovely positive feedback so far - a respected introvert coach colleague said:
"I tapped along with you, and this is the first time that this method of tapping has worked for me. I think because the words were slowed down enough to not drive me crazy, LOL. So thank you for helping me become more conscious of this contraction and for helping me get back to homeostasis in my brain."

Another person wrote, about the "I'm not ready" feeling:
"One example is when I was about to become a teacher. I was full of insecurity about who I was, and had set myself all sorts of ideals of what a teacher should be, and how I wouldn't be able to meet those standards. I'm now approaching the end of my 9th year as being a teacher. I'm much more gentle on myself about it, and now feel very at ease with myself, and also don't expect myself to be a teacher with superpowers! Each teacher is different, I came to realise that I didn't need to fit into a certain mould."

YOUR TURN TO PARTICIPATE:

Which ones ring a bell for you? What other 'showstoppers' have you encountered for YOUR goals and dreams? Comment on the FB posts above, or reply to this email once you've read the articles on FB.

PS: Do you want to discover your own list of unique strengths, and understand how they can make life more joyful for you?

I have a special offer for you in January and February. A Top 5 Strengths session is usually 90 minutes at $150 (R1,500). Right now, and into February, we'll spend TWO hours together (2 separate hours), and it's only $120 (R1,200). This includes the fee to complete the online assessment. So you have more time with me to delve into your uniqueness, AND you save!

It needs to be booked, paid and used by end of February 2018. Reply right now (if you're a fast action taker like Bennie) or in an hour (if you're more slow, like me) to book your place. I LOVE this work of helping you understand and embrace what's RIGHT with you!

"Handle Conflict with Ease"

A while ago, I wrote about an experience I had where someone at a workshop did something and I ended up feeling extremely annoyed.

Usually, I would have avoided speaking up - and in this case, I DID speak my mind and we cleared the air immediately

Just this past week, an opportunity came up in an EFT mentoring call, where I could offer that same person a session right there on the call. If we had NOT cleared the air last year in August, I would have felt very uncomfortable, like we had unfinished business... my heart would've felt closed and I would not have been able to do the healing work with openness and warmth.

We sorted it out when the incident arose because of a very valuable technique I learnt on a workshop - and it opened the door to a beautiful opportunity for healing and connection much later.

What happens to YOU when conflict arises? Do you have a way to resolve it or clear the air, so that it doesn't escalate? Or do you do what I used to - ignore it or run away - and eventually it DOES blow up in awful and unexpected ways?

A lady wrote me this week that she is SEVENTY THREE and still doesn't know what to do with conflict. She withdraws, all the "wrong" words come out of her mouth, and she's so tired of this issue. I am not surprised!! That's not pleasant is it?

That's exactly why my awesome colleague, Alison Gitelson and I, will offer our next introduction workshop on "Handling Conflict with Ease"

Our dates have changed - it's now on Wednesday 28 February, with a follow-on a week later, on 7 March
10 am SA (8 am UK) OR 6 pm SA (4 pm UK, 11 am ET).

Did I mention how affordable it is at only $25? We're hosting it online, so there's no traveling. If you're an introvert who doesn't like meeting crowds, this should be helpful! There's a follow-on a week later so you can put the techniques into practice and have your questions answered.

After the previous workshop, we had this feedback:
"During the week, as a result of the workshop, I confronted something I’d been avoiding. Someone wanted to pursue a friendship and I didn’t and I found a way to say it that was straightforward and honest, without being hurtful.  In fact I got an email back thanking me for my sensitivity. It was one of the reasons I wanted to do the workshop, to deal with this thing, so that was great!"

Monthly Tapping Circle
Our next monthly Tapping Circle is on Monday 12 February at 4 pm SA, 3 pm Europe, 2 pm UK, 11 am ET.  It's a kind, safe place to clear lingering issues, beliefs, bothering events and memories in a small group of tappers.

Book here for February and March.
